Facts & Figures

BBMRI-NL 2.0 is the innovative integration of three complementary national infrastructure initiatives: BBMRI-NL 1.0 (biobanking), EPI2 (European Population Imaging Institute), and TraIT (IT for translational research) for precision medicine.

BBMRI-NL2.0 has received € 9,8 millionto build a national infrastructure that integrates the full range of biobanking and population imaging activities in the Netherlands.

Such a national biobank infrastructure will enable ground-breaking biomedical research, resulting in the development and delivery of better diagnostics and therapeutics, new life style interventions and other ways to prevent disease. The infrastructure will ensure the leading position of the Netherlands in this area of international science is maintained and enhanced.

The organizations that are now bundled under BBMRI-NL 2.0 already booked some great successes. For instance, the TraIT translational research IT tools have approximately 2,900 registered users originating from more than 500 institutes. Until 2015 with BBMRI-NL 1.0 over 200 biobanks were brought together with samples of close to a million Dutch individuals. Over 5% of the Dutch citizens currently actively participate in biobanks, which results in over 13 million biobanked samples. The BBMRI Legal Wiki provides templates and instructions for legal compliance to the national and international research community. The BBMRI Legal Wiki View statistics show >550.000 views. An estimated 500 researchers at 150 research institutes have been working with data provided by BBMRI-NL 2.0. With on average 50 scientific publications a year, the scientific output was tremendous.
