X-chromosome publication in nature communications

René Luijk, Bas Heijmans from Leiden UMC and BBMRI-NL, and co-workers report in Nature Communications on new genes controlling X chromosome inactivation in women and identify causes of variable DNA methylation at regions known to cause mental disorders.

The data analyzed in this study came from 3265 individuals from six Dutch biobanks collaborating in the BBMRI-NL Biobank-based Integrative Omics Study (BIOS) Consortium. The dataset consisted of 7,5 million SNPs, 440 thousand methylated sites and 10 thousand expressed genes. Results were replicated in an additional 3351 women from 5 European cohorts. Read more
